The life of the nineteen-year-old Signa has always been marked by tragedies. Since she was born, death has always accompanied her, taking away her parents first and then all those to whom she was entrusted. This is because Signa is a special girl, able not only to see Death and to be immune to its touch, but also to see and communicate with the spirits around her and to cross the thin veil that separates the dead and alive. Left alone again in Signa, all that remains is to move to her last living relatives, the Hawthorne family, in their sinister Thorn Grove home, waiting to finally be able to obtain her inheritance and to be able to live alone so as to move away once for all Death. As soon as she arrives in Thorn Grove she will be approached by one of the ghosts that haunt these places, or Lillian Hawthorne, the mistress who recently died from a mysterious disease that will soon lead to her daughter Blythe's death. Thanks to the clues left by Lillian, Signa will understand that someone is hiding inside the castle who is poisoning the girl as he did with her mother. But if Signa wants to save Blythe before it is too late for her too and stop the person responsible for this crime, she will have to ask for help from the very person she hates most in the world, that is to the same Death who will help her solve this mystery.

This book was a pleasant surprise for me. In fact, I never expected that he would be able to conquer me in this way from the first page. I found this Fantasy with a Gothic atmosphere very intriguing and suggestive, moreover, with the addition of that mystery touch, the author has managed to give life to a truly compelling story from which the reader will really struggle to break away.
The protagonist Signa is a very strong, smart and determined girl. Since her parents died, she has been raised by several guardians who all died early, who have always been more interested in her money than her well-being. But as much as Signa has always felt alone, she never really was, because Death has always been watching over her. Death has always been attracted to this one-of-a-kind girl, immune to her power, able to see spirits, and with abilities very similar to his. When Signa is forced to move to the Hawthorne estate, her last surviving relatives, her plan to keep everything that has to do with the supernatural away from her unfortunately cannot be implemented. The first night in Thorn Grove, in fact, the ghost of Lillian, the wife of the owner who recently died under suspicious circumstances, appears, who needs his help to prevent the same cruel fate from touching her daughter Blythe. There is in fact someone who is trying to poison her as he did with Lillian. Signa intends to do everything in her power to save her cousin's life and stop the culprit once and for all but alone she can do very little. To help her in her investigations there will be Sylas, a stable boy of the estate with whom little by little a friendship will be born, perhaps destined to turn into something deeper, and her staunch enemy, Death. The stormy relationship between Signa and Death will evolve over the course of the investigations, the latter in fact will become for her a sort of mentor, teaching her not to deny what she is and the great powers she possesses, and helping her to enhance them and make the most of them.

"Belladonna" is an exciting and compelling Paranormal Fantasy that you just can't miss. I'm really curious to find out what the author has in store for us in the second chapter of the series.
